Directing

Any production of any play is shaped by the vision of the world

Any production of any play is shaped by the vision of the world, the interplay of the writer’s vision and the director’s interpretation of that vision. Therefore, I strive as a director to help guide my colleagues through the story, into different worlds and allow access for our audience (emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually).

One of the reasons I love theatre so much is that it is a highly collaborative art form. It’s why I endeavor as a director to be extremely collaborative, inspiring all members of the team to find that sense of play and imagination, then working together to harness that imagination so it can become fully grounded and integrated.

I love theatre that has stakes that are through the roof. Characters having an intense need that propels them forward, while watching relationships transforming from moment to moment.

I love Shakespeare and the classics. I love contemporary plays. I love new work. I firmly believe that one can inform the other and it’s why I enjoy vacillating between all genres.

I approach directing with a real sense of curiosity and openness.

Music is integral to me as a director. My experience as a musician and how music affects me is a key part of the process, so music is very important to me.
